Ok I get it, it’s freezing and wet, we are in the midst of winter.. We are also a short 8 weeks to daylight savings and 5 months to Summer!!

Heres how you lose the extra weight and gain abs of steel before summer.

Step 1: Nutrition

“The hardest part for me was the diet piece, by far,” says Anna, Priorityfitness athlete. Her meal plan allowed for 2,000 calories per day, including 283 grams of protein, 120 grams of carbohydrate, and 12 grams of sugar. “I was never hungry, but I definitely had cravings for things that weren’t on the diet. Basically, sugary things and carbs!”

What helped, she says, was that each diet included a reward system to ward off cravings. “I’m a sweets person,” says Anna. “There was no real sugar allowed, but at the end of the night I was allowed to eat a Vegan cake.”

Step 2: Exercise

For the first four months, focus on boosting your cardiovascular health, strengthening your muscles, and speeding up your metabolism.

“I would work out with [my coach] in the morning, and by the end of the day I couldn’t even lift my arms over my head. And then I’d have to go back the next morning, even though I still couldn’t lift them!” recalls Christy. “I just had to keep my eye on the prize.”

Step 3: Definition

When it comes to showing off a fit body, it’s not all about the exercise. The final four weeks you need to am up everything.

Working out 4-6 times a week is ideal, 2-3 times will not cut it.

It’s All About Setting Goals

If boosting your fitness levels and shedding a few kgs is something you aspire to do, here are some more tips:

1. Be Open about your summer goal

Tell people about it and put some social capital into it so that you feel like you can’t get out of it.

2. Be Social

My advice to people who have fitness goals is to make it social, to do it with friend and a little competition goes a long way.

3. Be Aware

The biggest learning for me came from the diet, and understanding what it takes to build and maintain muscle, and what kinds of food you need to eat.

4. Be Good to Yourself this summer

Have a very specific goal in mind when you start, and reward yourself. If it’s 5 kilos in four months, have that goal in mind and reward yourself for getting there.
