Why You Should eat with the Seasons; Winter is here!
EAT IN SEASON
Eating fruits and vegetables that are in season is so beneficial for the body. Why is this? Well firstly, Fruit and vegetables contain the greatest amount of nutrients when they are allowed to ripen naturally. For example when you buy a fruit or vegetable that has been picked early then frozen/chilled to keep it good for when winter time rolls around it has lost many nutrients already. Plus they don’t taste as good. Fruits and vegetables that are in season with inter are all rich in vitamin C which is important for us during the colder months.

EAT WARM
It is super good for us to eat warm during the winter. During cold months it is good to give our digestive systems a bit of a break from raw foods and vegetables. Steaming, sautéing or baking your veggies as well as making cups and stews will warm the body and keep us nourished.
EATING WITH THE SEASON IS BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Believe it or not, our food has travelled a large journey to get to us. Everything we eat has a carbon footprint. Undeniably the way that our food has travelled to us is a key part of the harm we do to the planet. Eating locally and organically helps to limit the miles your food has travelled by plane. If we eat what is in season it is more likely to be grown closer to home, rather than eating food that is in season in another country and then flown to us.
AVOID PRESERVATIVES AND PESTICIDES
Eating seasonal produce will ultimately minimise your exposure to preservatives. By food travelling to us as I stated in the point above, it needs to be preserved somehow if its going to travel such lengths by plane or water etc. To stop produce from moulding it is sprayed with fungicide sulphur oxide during travel. By eating organic and local you can avoid consuming this.
